Over-Kote Plus

Over-Kote Plus is a one-part urethane coating, sealer, and bonding agent formulated as the external counterpart to Red-Kote. Brushed on the outside of a fuel tank, it locks down light surface rust and protects the metal against road grime, moisture, and underbody salt.

What makes it different

  • One-part system. No mixing, no pot life, no ratio errors. Open the can, brush it on.
  • Plastic-fiber reinforced. Embedded fibers add tensile strength and resistance to cracking, chipping, and peeling from vibration or stone impact.
  • Moisture-cure urethane. Tack-free in about two hours in dry weather; safe to reinstall in four; full cure in twenty-four. Higher humidity speeds curing.
  • Sticks to almost everything but plastic. Strong bond to metal, glass, porcelain, ceramic, concrete, and dry wood. Pairs with Red-Kote for inside-and-out tank protection.

What it isn't for

Do not thin and do not spray — plastic fiber content prevents both. Not for potable-water containers. Cannot guarantee adhesion on paint, varnish, plastic, or fiberglass without prior testing. External coating only — use Red-Kote inside the tank.

Packaging

One-pint metal cans, packed twelve per case. One pint covers about 16-20 sq ft — roughly two average gas tanks. Backed by Damon's guarantee.

What it isn't

Do not thin. Cannot be sprayed — plastic fibers clog spray equipment. Not for potable-water containers. External coating only — use Red-Kote inside the tank. Adhesion to paint, plastic, or fiberglass is not guaranteed.

Surface compatibility

Tested at label concentration on common facility surfaces. For uncommon substrates, request a compatibility test from your Damon rep.

Application directions

Step-by-step instructions. Read all steps and any caution-flagged steps in full before starting.

  1. 1

    De-fume the tank

De-fume the gas tank with a de-fuming chemical, an oven, or by steaming for 10-15 minutes.

  2. 2

    Sand-blast the surface

Sand-blast the outside with #1 silica sand to remove rust and rough up the metal. Do not use steel shot or aluminum oxide. Ground the tank if not de-fumed.

  3. 3

    Repair holes and rinse

Solder a sheet-metal patch over any holes. Flush the tank with water to remove sand. Clean with acetone if not fully sand-blasted.

  4. 4

    Brush on and let cure

Brush on liberally with a 2-inch brush. Coat one side, wait 1-2 hours, then flip. Safe to handle in 4 hours; reinstall after the same. Full cure in 24 hours.
