S.P.D.
Granular caustic drain opener & weekly maintainer (pine-scented)
S.P.D.
S.P.D. (Speedy Drain) is a granular caustic drain opener and preventative maintainer for paper, hair, plant fibers, food residue, grease, and fat clogs. The granular form passes through standing water to reach the blockage and catches on partial obstructions in still-flowing lines, which is why it's so effective in a weekly maintenance program. Pine-scented; no rotten-egg sulfur smell.
What makes it different
- Sodium + potassium hydroxide blend. Most lye-based openers turn grease into hard bar soap (a worse plug). The proprietary KOH portion produces a soft liquid soap that rinses away.
- Coated granules. Won't cake in the container the way uncoated lye does.
- No aluminum filings. No flammable hydrogen gas generated during the reaction.
- Reaches distant clogs. Add one cup at the nearest drain, plus another cup for every additional ten feet to the suspected plug; works on outside sewers with sufficient volume.
- Pine fragrance. Deodorizes drains, toilets, and urinals during weekly preventative use.
What it isn't for
Do not attempt to clear clogs in large plastic drain pipes - excessive heat from a heavy dose can soften pipe walls. Do not add hot water on top. Do not mix with acid drain openers - reaction can boil water out of the drain. Not safe to handle without rubber gloves and eye protection.
Specs & packaging
Green-grey granular caustic solid, pine odor, pH ~13.5 (1% solution). Twelve 30-oz plastic bottles per case (1.88 lb / 853 g each). All packaging recyclable.
What it isn't
Not for clearing clogs in large plastic drain pipes (heat softens plastic). Don't add hot water - the reaction is already exothermic. Never mix with acid drain openers. Not a hand-safe cleaner: rubber gloves and eye protection required.
Surface compatibility
Tested at label concentration on common facility surfaces. For uncommon substrates, request a compatibility test from your Damon rep.

Application directions
Step-by-step instructions. Read all steps and any caution-flagged steps in full before starting.
-
1
Clogged drains: 1-3 tablespoons
Remove excess water from the basin. Sprinkle one to three tablespoons of S.P.D. into the drain and add just enough water to wash it down. Let stand at least 30 minutes.
-
2
Plugged sewers: cup per 10 ft
Add to the drain closest to the suspected plug - one to two cups for a clog ~10 ft away, plus an additional cup for every extra 10 feet. For outside sewers, use a quart or more. Let stand overnight if possible.
-
3
Grease traps: 2-4 cups
Sprinkle 2 to 4 cups down the sink drain, wash down with warm water, let stand overnight. Next morning, run several gallons of hot water down the drain.
-
4
Weekly preventative maintenance
A tablespoon in each drain, toilet, or urinal weekly keeps the lines clean and deodorized. Catches partial blockages before they become full clogs.
-
5
Protect plastic pipes
Excessive doses generate heat that can soften plastic. When clearing distant outside clogs, flush S.P.D. past any indoor plastic runs with sufficient water so it doesn't sit and overheat the pipe.
